Our aim is to create an inclusive culture where all students are equally welcomed and supported. We provide high quality education and care as children begin their learning journey at our Learning Centre with the following programs:
General Education is a formal education full day program running from 7:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. The program is designed by using the standard of national curriculum plus the extra programs such as English, life-skill, arts & sports, and nutrition education for the children who want to spend their full-day study with PTD School.
At this stage, PTD General Education is available for kindergarteners only (children from 2.5-5 years old). Due to our limited capacity and funding, we do not have classrooms, teachers, and other resources that can enable us to continue into a primary school general education program.
Special Needs is an umbrella term for a wide array of diagnoses. Some student cases are mild while some are profound. Children with special needs may have developmental delays (Cognitive skills, Communication, Social skills and emotional skills functioning, Behavior, Fine and gross motor skills), medicalconditions, psychiatric conditions, and/or congenital conditions. These special needs require accommodations so children can reach their potential.
PTD Special Needs Education Program accepts children from 2-6 years old by providing a wide range of curriculum including in and out site class activities, counselling support from specialists, and home-visit etc. The objective of the classes are to help children with special education needs to support themselves in their daily activities and be able to return to normal classes at a certain age.
Not only is English essential for us to communicate, it has become the language of opportunity. In Cambodia, people earn more money if they are proficient in English. The English Program is specifically designed for children from Kindergarten to primary school that have spare time after public school and choose to come to PTD Learning Centre part-time or for a half-day. The program is divided into full-time English (three hours per day) running from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. & 1:15-4:15 p.m. and part-time English (one hour per day) running from 5:00-6:00 p.m. and 6:00-7:00 p.m.
The program includes materials and teaching methods that suit the needs of young children. Important skills such as phonics and English literacy are part of the program for beginners to give students a sound foundation in their language studies. The students then progress to develop their range of vocabulary, understanding of English grammar, reading skills, and much more. The lessons are highly visual and incorporate movement and staged activities which support the students in their learning and the opportunity to learn from international teaching volunteers so that students can understand multiple accents.
PTD strongly believes life-skills are the foundation of each child’s development. In everyday life, the development of life skills helps children to find new ways of thinking and problem solving. It helps to recognize the impact of their actions and teaches them to take responsibility for what they do rather than blame others. Moreover, it also builds confidence both in spoken skills and for group collaboration and cooperation.
Morality, survival skills, religious education, critical thinking, team building, behavior, and stress management are included in PTD Schools’ curriculum. All of our lessons are aligned with the standard academic study of the children.
Malnutrition is one of the greatest development challenges affecting children in Cambodia. For children under 5 years old, 40% are stunted through chronic malnutrition, 28% are underweight, and 11% are wasted. Although some progress is evident in recent years, malnutrition rates remain stubbornly and alarmingly high.
Early 2019, PTD started a school kitchen with the aim to promote nutrition education and encourage healthy eating habits for our students. The kitchen offers breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack to children who study full-day from 7:30a.m. – 4:45 p.m. The school gardening program is also included in the school curriculum to educate each child on malnutrition, in conjunction with school gardening activities. Vegetables and plants that are grown by our students are used in our kitchen.
PTD Living Centre is located on Street 540, Chamkar Samrong 1 village, Chamkar Samrong commune, Battambang Municipality, Battambang Province.
PTD Living Centre offer a safe and temporary care for female students from rural areas of Battambang and neighbor provinces who are looking to share their community living experience while they pursue their education in Battambang City. Students will receive support from our social workers on additional life-skills and supports, as well as have access to English Classes and IT skills at the PTD Learning Center. This will help them to move on with their lives after they complete their education and be able to get a stable job.
